Born on December 7th, 1972, Harvest Merrill brought light and curiosity to the world around her. As a child, she was vivacious and full of questions, always eager to understand the “why” behind everything. Her curiosity only grew as she got older. No matter how often others encouraged her to turn right, Harvest would turn left, determined to explore life on her own terms. And what an adventure it was.
Even at a young age, Harvest’s heart was drawn to those who needed kindness the most. She loved visiting nursing homes, finding joy in brightening the days of the older generation. She also had a soft spot for people with disabilities, often volunteering her time to help and connect with them. Her compassion and ability to bring joy to others were some of her most remarkable traits.
Harvest had a deep love for music. Named after Neil Young’s Harvest Moon album, it seemed destined to play a special role in her life. Her concert list was legendary, though sadly undocumented. She loved traveling to see her favorite musicians, and she embraced every experience wholeheartedly. One unforgettable story she loved to tell was about crowd-surfing at a Butthole Surfers concert. To this day, her family recalls their disbelief at hearing the band’s name, only to later discover they were a big deal in the early ’90s.
Harvest also adored Seinfeld. Few things made her laugh harder or feel more at home than hearing the familiar bassline of her favorite sitcom. Those who knew her can imagine that she would have preferred a Festivus celebration over a memorial service. Her humor and love for the unconventional will forever remain part of her legacy.
Family was at the center of Harvest’s life. The one she was born into and those she chose to surround herself with. She was a devoted and loving aunt, whose kindness, humor, and enthusiasm left a lasting imprint on the hearts of her nieces and nephews.
Though Harvest struggled with mental illness, her resilience defined her. Despite the challenges she faced, she continued to fight, getting up time and time again. Her strength and determination were a testament to her spirit, even in the most difficult times. Harvest Merrill passed away from health complications on December 12th, 2024, in her apartment in Salt Lake City.
She is survived by her parents, Virgil B. and Sara Jo Merrill; her siblings, Loggins Merrill, Cache Merrill, and Ramsey Weaver, as well as their spouses; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Perrin, Tristan, Talon, Riven, Eden, Asher, Ainsley, Beck, Rhys, and Gabe.
A memorial service will be held on December 30th, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 951 East 100 South. Reception: 10:00 am - 10:45 am, Memorial Service: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to NAMI in her honor.
