Our beloved Heather Jo who was the joy of our lives, sweetly and peacefully left this world on Tuesday May 18, 2010. Heather fought brain cancer valiantly for nearly 5 years before succumbing. She leaves behind her TT and Tayland and Bubby who were her reason for living and for never giving up.
Heather was born on May 25, 1981 in Salt Lake City to Paul and Kathryn England. She was the youngest of 3 sisters and her daddy's little princess. Heather began singing when she was very young and enjoyed theater her whole life. She began singing in a trio with Mandy and Tia when she was in 8th grade and sang all through high school and beyond with her dear friends. Heather had a gift for friendship and was blessed with many wonderful friends through her life!
Heather graduated from Jordan High School in 1999 and attended Weber State University (thank you Jim Christian!). Her lifelong friend and high school sweetheart Bradford Garrison returned from his LDS mission and swept her off her feet while she was still in her freshman year of college. They married June 5, 2000 in the Salt Lake Temple. They both attended Southern Utah University in Cedar City that fall.
Heather's education was interrupted in November of 2002 by the arrival of Talitha Jo Garrison into their world in Cedar City. TT Jo was the joy of her dad (and still is!) and heart of her mom. Heather loved being a mother and was a wonderful one to both her children. After Bradford graduated from SUU they moved to Salt Lake City and Heather was employed by AMC as a leasing agent. Heather worked through a difficult pregnancy in 2005 as long as she possibly could. No one at AMC could have guessed that vivacious and charming Heather Jo was in the advanced stages of a vicious brain cancer. Many thanks to her friends at AMC for their kindness and support.
Heather fell into a coma on Aug.21, 2005 and was rushed to Alta View Hospital where little Tayland Reed Bradford Garrison was delivered by c-section, 7 weeks before his due date. Heather was Life Flighted to LDS Hospital and underwent emergency surgery to remove a large cancerous brain tumor. She surprised everyone at the hospital by waking up from her coma only 1 day after surgery. She was determined to see her baby boy and so every rule in the hospital was broken one day as her tiny little preemie was brought to her for a first visit. From that day on both mom and baby improved dramatically.
The cancer that afflicted Heather was removed, radiated, removed again, poisoned, and just kept coming back. Heather fought with every tool and method she could to fight the cancer and stay with her children. How she loved her little ones and found great joy in her time with them!
The love of her life, sweetheart, and eternal companion Bradford will be forever in her heart for his compassionate 24/7 care in the last year of her life. Remember cracking jokes and singing while getting chemo at the Huntsman center. . . glorying in her beautiful bald head. . .getting bean burritos at Taco Bell when that was the only thing that sounded good to eat?
Heather is survived by her husband Bradford Garrison; her daughter Talitha Jo; son Tayland Reed Bradford; parents Paul and Kathryn England; sister April (Michael) Walsman; grandmother Jeanette Hayes of Costa Mesa, CA; grandfather Gordon L. Hayes of Ivans, UT; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sister Lisa Anne Kent; grandparents Earl and Luana England; and her aunt Bonnie Schreck. A special thank you goes to Uncle Frank Schreck of Las Vegas, NV for his long time support of Heather and her family. Bless you!
An account has been set up for the children at Bank of the West in the name of:
