Herman Robert (Bob) deMik returned to the presence of his Heavenly Father on July 15, 2007 in Sandy, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on August 22, 1947 in SLC, UT to Herman deMik and Maartje Van Mondfrans deMik.
Bob married Connie Labrum on January 22, 1965, marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on April 22, 1976. Together they had five wonderful children and 18 grandchildren that were the apple of his eye. Bob was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many capacities in the Granite 11th Ward. He graduated from Highland High School in SLC and later taught graphic arts at the Salt Lake Trade Technical College. Bob began his career employed at Color by de Mik which was owned by his brother Joe and Susan de Mik. It was here he learned his trade. Bob was well suited to his profession due to his desire to be precise and to provide the best quality work he was capable of. Later, he worked for Ernie Miller and from there Paul Keyser asked him to become part of the growing company of Utah Paper Box. UPB gained an excellent employee when they hired Bob de Mik. Bob worked in several capacities: overseeing the printing department for a time and at the time of his illness as pre-press supervisor. Bob had great skill in both the technical field and the people skills required to manage his co-workers and work closely with the customers of UPB. Marv Graves stated: "Bob was as good a color man as there ever was in the country. He was renown throughout the industry. He was phenomenal. He spearheaded the move to bring the box company into the digital age". Bob worked for UPB for 27 years until he learned he had Pancreatic cancer which took his life in just 7 short months. He was loved and highly respeced by his co-workers and friends. Bob loved camping and hiking trips with his family. Woodworking, photography and music and golf were hobbies. Running and bicycling were activities he undertook to have a healthier lifestyle. For many years, he rode his bike to and from work; about 40 miles a day. Bob is survived by his wife, Connie, five children, Kent (Heidi) de Mik, Wende (Joe) Tate, Heather (Bryce) Corriveau, Lindsey (Kelly) Brown and Kimberley (Jason) Brown, 18 grandchildren, two brothers, Joseph (Sue) de Mik, and Gary (Carol) de Mik and one sister, Katherine Christenson. He was preceded in death by his parents and father in law, Kenneth Labrum. Funeral services will be held on Thurs., July 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Granite 11th ward meetinghouse, 9855 South 2300 East, Sandy, Ut.. Friends and family may call on Wed. evening July 18, 2007 at the Granite chapel listed above from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and July 19th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park, 7800 S. 3115 E. SLC. The family would like to thank all the wonderful medical professionals who have so lovingly cared for Bob over the past few months.
