Irene John Damigos Reichner
Our beloved wife, sister, mother, Yia Yia and friend passed away on May 15, 2008 after a brave battle against Breast Cancer. She was a tremendous strength to her family and will be dearly missed. She was born May 10, 1945 in San Pedro, California to Stella Michael Costuros and John Nick Damigos. Irene is the second of five daughters.
Irene married her loving husband, Mark Evan Reichner on August 15, 1969. Together they raised six children; Scott, Jeannette, Heidi, Mark, David, and Brock. Irene will be remembered for her passion and dedication in raising her family. She spent many hours at basketball games supporting her husband and sons. She believed in her children and encouraged them to work hard and reach for their dreams. Her love and devotion will be missed by all.
Irene was raised in the Greek Orthodox Church. She was very proud of the history and tradition of her Greek heritage. In May of 1969 she was baptized a member of the LDS Church. She raised all of her children in the Church and in July of 1980, she was sealed to her husband and her children in the Los Angeles Temple.
In 2004, Mark and Irene served a mission in Athens, Greece. She spent many hours serving the branch members and meeting the needs of the Greek people. She was honored to be a board member of the American Women's Organization of Greece. The highlight of her time there was visiting her father's island of Psara to memorialize him and gather genealogy.
Irene is survived by her husband Mark, her children Scott (Jill) Reichner, Jeannette (Mike) Kee, Heidi (Jack) Reid, Mark (Isa) Reichner, David (Barbi) Reichner, Brock (Chanell) Reichner, her sisters Mary, Nicoletta, Marcella, Angeline, and her 25 grandchildren.
