Irvin C. “Woody” Wadsworth – 1936-2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather, & great-grandfather. Clair was born September 24, 1936 to Joseph Howard and Evelyn Miller Wadsworth and called it a night for the final time on January 25, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He grew up in Magna, Utah, and from all the stories we have heard, it sounded like a pretty adventurous and fun-filled time. Evidently, being the youngest, he was the guinea pig of many of his brother’s inventions. This left him with some lifelong scars, but some fond memories, nonetheless. He loved reminiscing about his younger years and always enjoyed visiting his old stomping grounds to see the changes happening and to show/tell us stories from the good old days.
He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1954 and was drafted into the US Army where he served in Germany. He always said he didn’t need to go on a vacation cruise because he had already taken a long cruise to Germany courtesy of Uncle Sam. Upon return home, he continued his 44-year career at Kennecott Utah Copper. He was proud to be one of the “Kennecott Lifers” and was #1 in terms of years when he retired.
He married Norma Fraser on May 5, 1962, and they celebrated almost 63 years together. Clair never put himself first and all his focus and efforts were always geared toward supporting and helping his family. We will forever be grateful for this.
Clair was a people person and loved to socialize with friends and strangers alike. His kids/grandkids were always amazed that no matter where they went with him, he knew someone. He also loved to “people watch”, which he got to do a lot due to his wife and daughter's love of shopping.
He was so excited when he got a grandson interested in golf. They spent countless hours perfecting his skills and just enjoying each other’s company. This was a very special time in his later years. When he retired, he loved going to coffee each morning with the old cronies to shoot the bull. He also joined an old cronies golf group and did that until his body no longer could. Age just really gets in the way sometimes. He was very supportive and never missed an event for one of his kids or grandkids.
He loved his family, the Utes, the Democrats, Mtn Dew, Heartland (“The Ranch”), Horse Movies, the Movie ‘Hitch’, Golf, the beautiful Utah Mountains, Picnics at the Park with his wife & daughter, Nice & Clear Sunny Days, Fresh Air, Cats/Dogs, Holiday Decorations, and sitting in the driveway, taking in the scenery, while greeting people as they went by.
Survived by his wife, Norma, and their 3 daughters, Marianne (Ryan), Janet (Darin), & Alison. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, & 1 on the way. Colby (Caroline), Austin (Taylor), Amanda, Alexis (Jake), & Cooper. Predeceased by his parents and his 3 brothers, as well as his youngest grandson, McKay Joseph Patterson.
We love him so much and will miss him dearly, but hope he is stocked up on Mtn Dew, driving around in his beloved Black CR-V, playing all the best golf courses.
Although we love your favorite song, we hate that it was “Time to Say Goodbye”.
Till we meet again…
