James Frank Killian

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather James Frank Killian passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, at home after a massive stroke and 12 days in ICU.
Jim was born August 6, 1931 in Kaysville, Utah to Rulon and Reva Sheffield Killian. He graduated from Weber State University with an associate degree in auto mechanics. He then served a mission for the LDS church to Argentina from 1950-1953 and served in the US Army stationed in Germany from '53 to '55.
He married Dorothy Elaine Reed January 6, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1957 and worked in Seminary and Institutes for the LDS Church Educational System for 36 years in Randolph & Laketown Utah, Ogden Utah, Southern California Institutes, Fresno Institutes, Provo Seminary and UVU Institute. For 2½ years he traveled to Mexico visiting Church Schools and to Latin America implementing the Home Study Program.
Shortly after retiring in 1993, he served as Mission President of the Chile Vié±a Del Mar Mission with his wife, Dottie from 1994 to 1997. He also served as a high councilor, bishop, branch president at the MTC andt BYU, and at the Provo Temple for 11 years. He taught Institute at the Utah County jail and served a mission with Dottie in the Provo Freedom 2nd Ward Inner City Mission and the Grandview East 20th Spanish Ward.
Jim loved studying and teaching the gospel above all. He also enjoyed working on cars, antique cars, fixing things, being outdoors, camping, hiking, and water skiing. He hiked Angels' Landing at age 76. He built a cabin at Timberlakes and added a great room to his home in Provo with the help of his sons and grandsons.
He is survived by his wife Dottie, his children: Karen, Sharon (David) Barrus, Hal (Lasca) Killian, Scott Killian, Lisa (Noji) Ratzlaff, Sue (David) James, Julie, Shane (Andra) Killian, Becky (Frank) Weeks, 30 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Jennie, 2 sisters and his parents.
Many thanks to Drs. Howard Reichman, Thayne Wilson, James L. Clark and ICU nurses, physical therapists, Orem Rehab and Wendy Selmos from Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at the Grandview Stake Center, 1122 North Grand Ave, Provo. There will be a visitation Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grandview Stake Center and Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be held at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo.
