Janet Stevens Garrett passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2011 in Springville, Utah, after a courageous 16 year battle with Downwinder's cancer.
Janet was born on January 28, 1948 in Fillmore, Utah, the youngest child of Ervin Riley Stevens and Grace Margaret Spencer. She was raised in Holden, Utah and graduated from Millard High School in 1966. She married John E. Garrett on May 29, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple as they were students at BYU and they have been blessed with six children and fourteen grandchildren. Janet loved to learn and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education and Child Development & Family Relations, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, and a Doctorate degree in Behavioral Science. Janet also served the public faithfully as a school teacher, mental health counselor, and as a hospice therapist. She is an active member of the LDS church and has served as a YW Leader, Stake Missionary, Marriage and Family Relations Teacher, Institute Instructor, Church Service Missionary at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and as an Ordinance Worker in the Provo Utah Temple. Janet lived her life by the BYU motto: "Enter to learn, go forth to serve."
Janet is survived by her husband John E. Garrett of Springville, Utah, and by the following family members: Norman and Carolyn Stevens of Holden, Utah, John and Kathy Stevens of Springville, Utah, John S. and Stacey Garrett of Albuquerque, New Mexico, John and Joanne Manning of Henderson, Nevada, Jimmy and Laurel Garrett of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Jared and Julie Olsen of American Fork, Utah, Ben and Janice Hewett of Provo, Utah, and Jerold Garrett of Springville, Utah.
The viewing will be held on Friday, March 18th from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at the LDS Spring Creek Stake Center located at 760 North 400 East in Springville, Utah. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am and the Interment will be held that afternoon at the Holden City Cemetery, in Holden, Utah. Special thanks are given to her family members and friends, members of the LDS Spring Creek 15th Ward, the professional team of Alpha Omega Hospice, and to Serenicare Funeral Services for their caring and timely assistance.
