Jay Alonzo Wilcken, 72, of West Valley City passed away peacefully in his home on August 29, 2012, surrounded by his family. Jay was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents Gil and Noma Wilcken on June 27, 1940, the second of five children. He is survived by his sister: Vicki White, brothers: Terry Wilcken and Lance Wilcken, children: Colette Wilcken, Wes Wilcken, Carie Gabron, Trent Wilcken, Gina Nielson and Aubrey Johnson, his grandson: Danny Wilcken, 14 other beloved grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Jay graduated Cypress High School in 1958. He was an all-star basketball player and was known as "Little Wilks" by his classmates due to his 6'4" stature. He enjoyed watching basketball and football, especially the Utah Jazz and the Raiders. He was a successful business man and Jack of all trades. His children cherish his knowledge and wisdom. He firmly believed in teaching his children and grandchildren the importance of self-worth, setting goals, hard work and honesty. He always said that there was absolutely nothing that his kids couldn't do if they set their minds to it. Jay was known for his sense of humor and always had a joke or story to share. These jokes and stories have set lasting memories of this great man and will be treasured forever.
A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5th at the Wellsville LDS Stake Center, 30 S. Center, Wellsville, Utah. Funeral services will take place at 12:00p.m. followed by the burial at the Wellsville City Cemetery.
