Jean Atkinson Latham died on May 5, 2017. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming on January 14, 1922 to Ben Jesse Atkinson and Tiena Brown Atkinson. She graduated from Hollywood High. On May 2, 1942 she married Carl Ardell Latham in Los Angeles, California.
While Ardell served our country in WWII as a ââââââsubmariner, Jean supported the family as a dental ââââââassistant and was very active in the Hollywood ââââââWomen’s Business Club.
Jean was small in stature but big in heart, talent, kindness, love and service. Her family and faith were her greatest blessings. She devoted her whole heart to those she loved; her husband, Ardell, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Anyone welcomed by her big brown eyes and dimpled smile, felt genuine acceptance and love. She loved the Lord and directed her boundless energy serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Whether teaching children to sing as Primary chorister or leading women as Ward and Stake Relief Society President, she joyfully gave 100%.
Jean’s beautiful voice and love of music provided the opportunity to sing with “The Singing Mothers”, “The Mendenhall Chorale”, and productions of “Threads of Glory.” Yet her favorite use of that musical talent was writing, directing “Roadshows” for the youth of the church. 1st prize winners all! Jean’s greatest wish was that her family love each other and the Lord.
Surviving Jean are her children: Pamela (Chris) Thompson, Duffy Ardell (Kassie) Latham, Kimberly (Richard) Trimble, Darlene (Don) Clifford, David (Deborah) Latham, and Tracie (Adam) Robbins, Foster Daughter. She is further survived by her brother, Jesse Duffy Atkinson; 22 Grandchildren; 49 Great-grandchildren; âââââand many much loved nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Dolores Gerrard, and Beth Speaks.
Funeral services for Jean will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 12, 2017, the LDS Chapel at 1150 East 1240 South, Spanish Fork. A time of visitation will be held the same day at the church from 9:45-10:45 AM.
Special Thanks to the staff at Legacy House, Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation, and 1st Choice Home Health and Hospice.
