Jeanne Eleanor Benson, 82, died Dec. 21, 2007. She was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN, to Ingram Keith and Mary Ellen Knights.
After graduating from Central High in 1942, Jeanne worked as a bank teller where she met and fell in love with George C. Benson. They married on July 12, 1947 and enjoyed 40 wonderful years together. George and Jeanne golfed, traveled, raised 2 children, and worked closely together in George's successful school photography business in Rialto, CA. Jeanne fulfilled a dream by attending college at age 42. She earned a Bachelor's from Cal State San Bernardino, and a Master's in Library Science from the U. of Minn. in 1984. Jeanne worked as a librarian within the Riverside County Library System for 15 years, retiring as a library branch head in Dec., 1993.These were very happy and productive years for Jeanne as she loved her profession and her co-workers. After George died in 1987, Jeanne kept busy by working, and attending many musical and culinary events with her library buddies. Following her retirement in Dec. 1993, Jeanne moved to Orem,Utah to be near her daughter. New friends made her part of their families, and once again she enjoyed throwing "feasts" at her house, and going out to eat; always "ordering for leftovers." In July 2007, Jeanne fell, and the injuries resulted in months of hospitalization and therapy. Finally, on Dec. 8, she returned home where she was able to enjoy several comfortable and pain-free days become succumbing on Dec. 21 with her daughter by her side.
Jeanne is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Benson, Tina Anderson, many nieces and nephews, Minnesota cousins, library friends, and her Utah "families." She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Katie, Bob, and Mary; husband George C. Benson; and son Thomas Neil Benson.
Jeanne is greatly missed. She was a woman of integrity, and possessed a keen wit, sharp mind, delightful sense of humor, and a calm rational demeanor.
Thanks to the devoted caregivers who cared for her these last several months: Dr. Peter Duros; Alpine Hospice (especially Dora, Janet, and Lynn); Aspen Senior Care, and the dedicated staffs at Timpanogos Reg. Hospital, UVRMC, Utah Specialty Hospital, and Orchard Park Care Center. Thanks to Jeanne's wonderful friends and family for the love and support they showed over the years: the Eytchesons, Barbara Kandt, Tina's family, the Milestone neighbors, the Clarks, Welches, and the supportive clans in MN, OH, NC, and MA. Mom loved you all. Much appreciation also goes to Mary's employer and friends at Nu Skin Enterprises for all their support during this time.
Following a time-honored Benson family "tradition", Jeanne was cremated with no services held. Please contact Mary or Tina for details regarding an open house to be held Jan. 12 in honor of this kind and gentle woman. Come prepared to laugh, reminisce, and of course, to enjoy a "sumptuous feast." Mom would like that very much. Online condolences may be given at www.serenicare.com
