Jim Demetropolis

Jim Demetropolis; 84, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah passed away, Friday, August 26, 2011. He was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah on October 29, 1926 to Greek immigrant parents; George Demetropolis and Virginia Zampos, Demetropolis. He resided in Salt Lake since 1934 and graduated from South High School in 1944. He served for two years in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. One year was served with the Occupation Forces in Kokura, Japan. He continued his military service for six more years from 1949 to 1955 with the Navy Reserves.
Jim continued his education at the University of Utah in Salt Lake. He married Athena Polychronis on July 31, 1954. He worked at the Tooele, Utah Army Depot for 40 years until his retirement. His love of basketball lead him to seek a position at the then Delta Center on the janitorial service just to be around the environment of the game he loved. Due to health he was forced to leave the job of his choice not necessity. Jim was a long time fan of the Ute's Basketball Team. He loved to snow ski and had skied for over 40 years. He enjoyed the outdoors which included fishing and hunting with his son George.
He is survived by his wife Athena Demetropolis. His children; Jeannie (Mark) Palmer and George (Stephanie) Demetropolis; Grandchildren; Nicole Perez (Jubal), Harley Ann Demetropolis and April Lewis (Cody). He was preceded in death by his parents a grandson; Gregory James Demetropolis, two sisters. Two sisters survive. He had two great grandchildren, Aiden and Zoe Perez.
There will be a private family service to be held at a later date.
I share my thanks and appreciation to Dr. Vere Lancaster for taking care of my health problems for the past 30 years. To Lana Vranek for being thoughtful and kind in grooming my hair for the last 27 years, and to Sarah and Arturo DeLeon for the help given both to my wife and myself for the last 15 years.
