John Kent Beck, son of Sophia Collins and John Peter Beck, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 27, 2007. John was born March 17, 1922 in Provo, Utah. He attended Provo schools and graduated from B.Y.U. with a degree in Animal Husbandry and Botany. He furthered his education in Civil Engineering and was instrumental in the construction of many water conservancy projects in the Salt Lake area and other Utah locations. He was a loyal citizen who loved and respected our country. He served four years in the United States Air Corps, returning home from the Island of Tinian. During the later part of military service, he met and courted Dorothy Paul and on May 5, 1950, they were married. Their marriage was later Solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1974. From this union they were blessed with two children: Ron and Patti.
John is survived by his wife and children, Ron (Trisha) and Patti Beck, eleven grand children-Matt (Gen), Nate (Megan), Lindsi (Parker), Alissa (Justin), Arianne, Robert, Richard, Ryan, Tami, Randy, and Riley, as well as two precious great grandchildren, Colter and Boston. John truly loved and admired his grandchildren for their goodness, intelligence and reaching spectacular goals in their young lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
John was a talented floral arranger, master at woodworking, loved traveling, nature and enjoyed the yearly visits to Snowbird. He received many compliments on the walking stick he crafted to assist him in walking. Although quiet and unassuming, he had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many callings and fulfilled his duties in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. John leaves his loving and devoted wife, Dottie of 58 years. She has been a devoted and loving caregiver during the past two years of his medical difficulties.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 31, 2007, in the LDS Olympus 4th Ward Chapel at 2700 East 4500 South. Friends and family may also pay their respects prior to the services from 10:30AM - 11:45AM. Interment will follow.
