John I Douroux, age 81 of Draper, Utah and formerly of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away in Draper on September 20, 2010.
John was born July 15, 1929 in New Orleans, La., the son of Irving Peter Douroux and Emma Darentsbourg Douroux. He attended schools in New Orleans. He grew up in a musical family of Dixie Land Jazz Musicians. Following his heritage, he learned to play the trumpet.
John served his country in the US Army in Korea. He was recognized as the Soldier of the Month, Far East Command and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was the beneficiary of Veterans Benefits for his war time service.
John worked as a Brick Mason for 30 years, was a certified carpenter and specialize in stone work. He and his two brothers were the stone masons on the Music Center of downtown Los Angeles, a four year project. John was the first to hire a female brick mason in Southern California.
He married Marilyn Green in New Orleans in 1953. She was his rock... He precedes her in death. He is survived by his wife, three children; Karl Douroux, Irving Douroux and Kelly Douroux, a brother, Donald Douroux and a sister, Myrtle Small. He also has five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Manuel Douroux and an honourable mention to his daughter in law Lucille Douroux
John Douroux was a generous man. He donated regularly to charitable causes, especially the underprivileged... He asked that in lieu of a Funeral that we continue on with his legacy to help those in need and to take special care of Marilyn.
