John Howard Pymm

John Howard Pymm was born January 4, 1935 to Walter Pymm and Bertha Miles Pymm in St. George, Utah. He was the third of five children and the oldest son. He has two older sisters Lois Jean Adams, and Maxine Hafen, and two younger twin brothers Ronald Miles Pymm, and Donald Miles Pymm. While growing up, he attended schools in St. George and completed two years at Dixie College.
He chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints from 1956 to 1958, and was called to the Southern California Mission. After returning from his mission, he met, fell in love with and married his sweetheart, Loretta Lovica Pratt in the St. George Utah LDS temple on the ninth of January, 1959.
He was employed by OK Rubber Welders in St. George, but soon moved to Salt Lake City in July of 1959. On December 1st, 1959 just a few weeks before his first child John was born, he went in for heart surgery to repair his aorta. He worked as a tire service man for Sears, Larch Tires, and eventually at Covey's Little America. He later left the tire business and started working as a residential construction worker, and then changed to commercial work with Stallings Construction where he built church houses for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for many years. He was a finishing carpenter and master craftsman who built specialized custom handrails, many of which are throughout Utah County.
He was a hard worker who loved his family and was proud of all their accomplishments, and was not afraid to let them know how he felt. He spent his entire life serving his family and others who needed a helping hand. He was usually the first one on the job and the last one to leave. He was a strong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, and had a strong conviction of his Savior Jesus Christ and his Gospel. He served in several callings in the church, his last being as a temple ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple for four years.
He was known for his quick wit and fun personality. He always had a good one liner for any situation, even when he was not feeling well, he could still make one laugh.
In April of 2008 he was diagnosed with terminal Prostate Cancer which had metastasized in his spine. He was strong threw his struggles, and rarely complained even though he dealt with a great deal of pain daily. He passed away at home on November 6th, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two younger brothers. He is survived by his two sisters Lois Jean Adams, and Maxine Hafen (Eldon) of St. George, UT, and his wife Loretta Lovica Pratt Pymm of Pleasant Grove. His children John Howard Pymm Jr. (Kristy) Iona, ID, Bernice Keetch (Von) Highland, UT, Brian (Maria) of American Fork, UT, Douglas of Pleasant Grove, UT, Melinda of Pleasant Grove, UT, Amy Pearce (Kendall) Showlow, AZ, Jenny Tate (Tyler) Camano Island, WA, and JoyAnne Miller (Robert) Bettendorf, Iowa.
