Johnny Kelvin Shaw passed away on September 16, 2024, after a long illness. He was born on September 29, 1952, to Marion Dean Shaw and Luzella Mae Smith. Johnny attended Blaine Elementary School, Central Junior High, and graduated from Granite High School in 1971. He later attended Salt Lake Community College. In 1973, he married Patricia Smyth in Salt Lake City.
Johnny had a successful career, beginning as a computer operator at Zion's Bank, where he eventually became an operations manager. He later worked for Utah Power and Light/PacifiCorp as a systems analyst until his retirement.
An avid Utah Jazz fan, Johnny was a long-time season ticket holder. He enjoyed working with leather and computers, collecting pressed pennies while on vacation, and spending time outdoors—whether traveling, camping, four-wheeling, or boating with family and friends. He also had a passion for all things Star Wars and Star Trek. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Johnny was the go-to person for anyone needing assistance with their computer.
Above all, Johnny loved his family. He will be remembered as a gentle soul and a good man who created countless cherished memories with those he loved.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Patricia, and their three children: April (Shad) Hulse of Cedar City, Melissa (Tim) Wyatt of Taylorsville, and Chris (Paige) Shaw of Murray. He adored his grandchildren: Taylor Hulse, Aubrey Hulse, Evelyn Wyatt, Timothy Wyatt, James Wyatt, Ervin Wyatt, Sherry Wyatt, Candelynn Goodall, and Taygen Shaw. He is also survived by his brother Marvin (Margaret) Shaw, sister Marian (Ben) Brown, brother-in-law Joel Garza and his devoted dog, Sassy.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph Shaw, in-laws Helen Newberry and James Allen Smyth, and his beloved four-legged companions—Luke, Boo, Susie, and Jasper.
In keeping with his wishes, Johnny requested an early birthday party to celebrate his life. On August 10, he was surrounded by family, neighbors, and friends who shared memories and hugs. He truly enjoyed the occasion, often recounting the joy it brought him to those who visited.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Joel Garza for his invaluable support during Johnny's hospice care at home, and to CNS Hospice care, especially Yvonne, for their compassionate assistance in his final moments.
In honor of Johnny, memorial trees can be ordered in his memory through our tree store.
