Joe was born in Honolulu, Hawaii March 29, 1936 to Charles "Red" Baetge and Margaret Sitzenstock Baetge. He has two sisters Faye Eraldi and Christine Baetge. He grew up in Sonoma, California as part of a loving family. He graduated from Sonoma High School in 1954. He married Carla Robinson in 1955 they were later divorced.
Joe loved sports and was a lifelong San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan. He also loved hunting and fishing, which he shared with his sons and sons-in-law. He married Marion Hart Hunt in 1973 in Novato, California. They were later sealed in the Oakland, California Temple.
They combined their families to include James H. Hunt (Janet), T. Jeffery Hunt (Lisa), Lorrie Fulton (Ron), Scott Hunt (Lisa), Shellie Moore (Tim), Dawn Hillstead (Mark), Matthew Baetge (Janice), Brian Baetge (Kelly). They now have 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Joe began his career in the grocery business and for a time, owned a grocery store in Preston, ID. They later moved back to Orangevale, CA and spent the remainder of his career in the oil and gas business.
He and Marion returned to Utah in 2005 and settled in Mapleton where they were living at the time of his death on January 2, 2011. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings but his favorite was service in the Primary, preparing youth for service to their Father in Heaven. He passed away peacefully surrounded by members of his family.
Funeral service is scheduled for Friday, January 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mapleton North Stake Center, with a viewing prior to services at 9:30-10:30 a.m. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday evening, January 6, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. also at the Mapleton North Stake Center, 475 North 1600 West, Mapleton, Utah.
