Josie Barlow Smith passed away on March 13, 2009 at 98 years old in Orem Utah.
She was born in Murray, Utah on June 7, 1910 to Joseph Smith Barlow and Anna Laura Lee. Josie Married Douglas James Smith on June 6, 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She had 6 sisters and 1 brother, and grew up in the Salt Lake area, graduating from LDS College in 1928.
Josie and Douglas had 4 children, Douglas Lee Smith (Joyleen), Jerry Tucker Smith (Dixie), Judy Helen Boelter (Michael), and Jo Ellen Smith, who died at birth. 17 Grandchildren, 51 Great Grandchildren, and 8 Great Great Grandchildren.
Mom worked for many years as a manager of Reeds Millinery, and as a hostess at Makeoff's and the Lion House. She was a long time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and had many enjoyable times with numerous friends. Her hobbies included writing Poetry and doing needlework. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by a brother, Joseph Lee Barlow, and a sister, Maurine Clayton and two sisters-in-law, Roma Garrett and Oneita Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, three grandchildren, and five sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery located on the Avenues.
