Jr. Harold Cannon

After a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's, Harold Cannon Jr. died peacefully Dec. 22, 2011. He was born July 29, 1924 in St. George, UT to Vernessa (Fern) Jones Cannon and Harold Cannon. He was the first of 4 children. He attended school in St. George graduating from Dixie High in 1942. He attended Dixie College for one year and then was drafted in the Army. Harold married his sweetheart, Mary Judd Cannon in the St. George Temple in 1944. Soon after the war ended he went to work for JC Penney where he worked for 43 years. He retired in Aug. 1984 and moved to Orem, UT to be close to family.
Harold was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served many positions but was probably most excited to work in the Boy Scouts and one summer took a group of boys, including his son Joe, on the Appalachian Trail where they walked 50 miles.
He enjoyed all kinds of fishing but his favorite was fishing the Pine Valley Creek. He was an avid coin collector. He always donated blood - over 200 pints until he was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer donate. He loved to work on the computer when most people were still afraid of them. He had the ability to fix anything from dishwashers to leaky faucets. He also had a small wood shop and would cut out numerous items for Mary and the Relief Society. Harold was always giving of himself and helped anyone with anything they needed. He helped people move and would gladly sit in the hospital with any friend or family member just to give support or feeding a sick friend. He spent his whole life serving others.
He loved his family, and they knew if they needed him, he would be there, no questions asked. Family was the most important thing to him and Mary was the love of his life. Harold passed just one day after their 67th wedding anniversary and will be greatly missed.
Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Judd Cannon, daughter Judi Cannon Harding, son Gregory Scott Cannon, 7 grand children and 9 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Judd Cannon, parents, one sister Colleen and two brothers, Fred and Robert.
Special thanks to Caring Hands for their love and support and to the loving members of Envision Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Wed. Dec. 28, 2011 at the Suncrest Stake Center, 90 N. 600 W. in Orem at 11 AM. Friends may visit for 1 hour prior to the service. Internment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
