Kay Lorraine Flinders, 90 passed away at home, peacefully in Salt Lake City, UT on the morning of September 30, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 7, 1920 in Tooele UT to Samuel A. Flinders and Lola Jefferies Flinders. He married Juanita May Mortensen in 1944 and together they raised a family of three children. Following Juanita's death in 1998 he married Maxine M. Crapo in 2003.
Kay was raised in Grantsville, UT and Oakley ID. After high school graduation, he moved back to the Salt Lake area. Kay served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a pilot and commander of a B-24 Liberator bomber. He was assigned in the European Theater to the 8th Air Force, 448th Bomber Group, and 714th Bomber Squadron. He and his crew completed 25 missions over the continent. After the War, he lived in the Salt Lake City area for several years. He and Juanita moved to San Mateo CA where he lived for over 40 years.
Kay was active in the LDS church and served many callings throughout his life. He and Juanita served missions in Denmark and Tonga.
Survived by his wife Maxine, daughter Deborah Toy, Oakland Ca. son Drew Flinders (Athena Chavarria), grandchildren Matthew Toy (Janice), Michael Toy (Mimi), Ellia Flinders, Evan Flinders and great granddaughter Ava Toy all of Burlingame, CA. Preceded in death by son Richard Flinders. Also survived by Maxine's children: Michael Crapo, Jeris Johnson (J.D.) John Crepeau, Martin Crapo (Elaine), Bryan Crapo, and Carol Gaskill (Rob) and Maxine's numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Sam Flinders, Earl (Mary Ila) Flinders, Lewis (Connie) Flinders, Richard "Buzz" (Sandra) Flinders; sisters Florrie (Dan) England, Sheila (Larry) Loomis, Gayle Rogalski, and Judy (Noel) Randall. He was preceded in death by brother, Dale Flinders and sisters, Ruth and Lavon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4, 2010, 12:00 noon at the Heughs Canyon ward, 6301 So. 2300 East, Salt Lake City UT. A viewing will be held Sunday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Monday 11:00-11:45 a.m. in the same location.
Interment in San Mateo, California. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Crosby N. Gray, Burlingame, CA October 11, 2010 6:30-8:00 p.m. Graveside service at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, CA Tuesday, October 12, 2010 11:00 a.m.
