Kenneth Roy Simmons passed away peacefully on July 27, 2010. Ken lived a long life and is now celebrating with his parents and siblings.
Ken was born in March 24, 1918, in Detroit, Michigan, to Frank Simmons and Ella Rosina Smart Simmons. He was born a twin, but his twin brother Chester died after 3 days. His older brother Gerald died at age 11. Ken's family moved to Los Angeles, California, while he was in his youth. At 15, his father died, so Ken rode his bike his senior year to the neighboring high school to take a course in aviation.
After high school graduation, Ken began working in Santa Monica at Douglas Aircraft putting the sides on airplanes. He continued to work for Douglas (then McDonnell Douglas) until his retirement at age 62, becoming an airplane inspector, then a missile inspector.
Ken was in the army, serving in the occupation of Japan after World War II. Ken was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ken married Dorothy Triplett. They were later divorced. Ken married Janis Pinkney on July 3, 1947. They were married over 63 years.
Ken enjoyed keeping a beautiful yard, golf, tennis, and family activities and vacations. He also loved cars, and enjoyed a collection of replicas. He loved sports, especially the LA Dodgers and all BYU sports teams. He passed away in a BYU shirt. He was beloved by many, and had a great sense of humor.
Ken is survived by his wife, Janis, and his children Ronald Dean Simmons, Cheryl (Fred) Bluhm of Sparks, Nevada, Robert Frank (Jill) Simmons of St George, Utah, and Glenn Owen (Debbie) Simmons of Alpine, Utah, twenty-three grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 29th from 7 pm to 9 pm at SereniCare, 12278 South Lone Peak Parkway Suite 103 in Draper. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 30th at the Highland City cemetery, located at 6100 West 11000 North.
