Kimber Kunz Barlow passed away on December 2, 2011 in the company of his beloved family, from complications arising from Pneumonia and Kidney disease.
Kimber was born on December 18, 1924 in Preston, Idaho to Nathan Barlow and Lydia Amelia Kunz. He was the second son of the second family; the second family consisted of 5 children.
Kimber loved women and consistently wanted them in his life. He married his first wife, Faye Peterson in 1948 in the Logan Temple, his second wife, Maybeth Price Ferrara in 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple, his third wife, Mildreth Alfreda Biorge Gilgen in 2006 in the Jordan Temple. Kimber also loved his children and called them his "bundles of joy".
Kimber was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Peterson, two children; Rebecca Lutz, Michael Paul Barlow, his second wife, Maybeth Price Ferrara and his third wife Milreth Alfreda Biorge Gilgen. Kimber is survived by his brothers, Ralph and Doran Barlow, his sister Carol Dawn McGlamery and children: Larry, Peggy, Gary, Kevin Barlow and step-children: Cheryl Jensen, Ralph, John and William Ferrara, as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all.
Kimber's brothers were drafted into the Army for the Second World War which prompted Kimber to join; he served in the Army from 1944-1946 and later, in 1950, joined the Air Force Army Reserves where he retired as Lt. Colonel.
Kimber graduated from Utah State University in 1950, with a Bachelor of Science in English; and a Master of Science in 1967. Kimber wrote a book published in 1967, by Utah State University Department of Education entitled: "A survey of current literature and research to determine productive methods of teaching listening in the elementary school."
His number one career was an educator. He worked as a Teacher and Principal in Box Elder, Weber, Millard and Salt Lake Counties. He also kept himself busy with 1 or 2 extra jobs and called himself a "Cock-eyed Optimist".
Kimber loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, his roses were a treat for the neighborhood. He was thrilled about garage sales, camping, traveling, and long drives. He had delight in making up puns and poems; and "just in case", he would carry pens and papers in his shirt pocket, ready to capture the next thought or phrase. Many mornings he would wake-up with a word in his head that just begged for a "PUN".
Kimber liked to write about politics and religion. He was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized and confirmed in 1932, ordained an Elder in 1943, ordained a Seventy in 1964 and ordained a High Priest in the in 1987.
The Family would like to thank the medical personnel at Intermountain Medical Center and the physician team lead by Dr. Orme in the Shock/Trauma ICU for all the attention and care given during Dad's last days, along with the heedful attention and care from Highland Care Center during his brief visit.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 12 noon at the Valley View Stake Center located at 2245 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. A public viewing will be held from 10:30a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Military graveside service and interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park: 3401 South Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, Utah.
