LeGrande Farley, age 92, passed away peacefully May 1, at home in Orem, Utah to be reunited with his eternal companion. Born in Springville, Utah on December 28, 1919, LeGrande was the fourth of four children born to John Allen and Chastie Losee Farley. During the depression his family moved to Los Angeles where he attended LA Polytechnic High School and after, LA City College. He was a natural athlete excelling in every sport, especially basketball where he played as a point guard for the Air Force. LeGrande's patriotism motivated him to enlist in the Army, doing so on Oct 23, 1941, before Pearl Harbor. He served most of his time in the European theater, flying many missions over Germany as the head plane's bombardier/navigator. He was an armament chief receiving medals for inventing the manual bomb hoist. He received 2 purple hearts which did not prevent him from continuing his service through the war's end, the highly esteemed silver and bronze stars, and many other medals of distinction. After his service in the military, LeGrande worked his entire professional career at Bank of America, retiring as Vice President. He married Bernice Mae Hulihan in the Salt lake Temple on August 27, 1945, with the ceremony being performed by President George Albert Smith. They were blessed with five children, and as a father he was their hero, and was always there for them. After retirement he and his wife served mission for the LDS church in Zimbabwe form 1983-84, and upon returning LeGrande spent 8 years as an ordinance worker in the Portland, Oregon Temple. LeGrande is survived by his children, Dianne Farley-Jones (Steve), Jeanine Palmer (Craig), Sharon Parsons, Daniel J. Farley (Honey), and David B. Farley (Ann), as well as 23 grand children and 34 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 12 noon at the Veteran's Memorial Park Cemetery chapel in Bluffdale, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location at 11 am of the same day. Interment will immediately precede the service.
