Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Leo Daniel Turner, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2008 at home in Alpine, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Virgin, Utah on July 31, 1927 to Isaac A. and Arema Matthews Turner. He married his sweetheart, Cleone Bateman on June 27, 1950 in Alpine. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
After graduating from Pleasant Grove High School, Leo served in the U. S. Army during World War II and later during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After a short time with Utah Power and Light, he worked for many years and retired in 1985 as a millwright at Geneva Steel. He then worked for Mosida Farms. Active in the LDS Church, he served as a scout master, gospel doctrine instructor, high councilor. He also served as Young Men president at the Developmental Center Ward. Leo loved his family and enjoyed the outdoors, helping others, farming, gardening, working with live stock, building wagons and carts and training horses to pull them.
Leo is survived by his wife Cleone and children Nora Begay (Gary) Louis, David Turner, Jil (Howard) Healey, Jeri (Randy) Bankhead, Dean (Jacquelynne) Turner and Michael (Marka) Turner. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren (two more on the way), brothers Bill (Marilyn) Turner and Clyde (Ann) Turner and sister JoAnne (Vic) Palmer. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Casey David Turner and brothers and sisters Blaine, Georgina, Carol, Glen and a still-born brother.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Mountainville 2nd Ward, 165 North 100 East in Alpine, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 and one hour prior to services on Wednesday, where friends and family may call. Interment will follow at Alpine City Cemetery.
