LILA MAUD BURTON BARRUS
Lila B. Barrus was born in 1901 in Afton, Wyoming to Thomas Fielding Burton and Alice Maud Call Burton, and died July 22, 2007, at the age of 106 in Orem, Utah.
Lila spent her early school days in home school, taught by her mother to protect the children from illness, and public schools, graduating from the Star Valley High School in 1918. After completing a 6-week summer course at the University of Wyoming, Lila began teaching the elementary grades in Star Valley, later serving as a principal. She had a rich experience in service to her Church, including serving as ward and stake organist for 50 years.
Lila married Rodney Barrus in 1922 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated 72 years of marriage, 60 of which were spent in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Lila and Rodney had 6 children to whom they were devoted, kind and loving parents: Valene DeFond (Cheyenne, WY), Ione Haines (Denver, CO), Deloy (Ruth), Marilyn (deceased), Nola (Frank, Orem, UT), and Eloise Bronson (Fred, Washington state). In addition to her five children, her progeny includes 21 grand children, 55 great grand children and 2 great great grand children.
Lila was born into a family of 13 children, 4 of whom are still living: Rachel, (Ogden, UT), Carol (Thayne, WY), Mona (Bountiful, UT), and McKay (Rene, Blackfoot, ID) and Arnold (Nadine, Sandy, UT).
The Utah viewing will be held at 10 am on Wed., July 25, at the LDS chapel located at 500 South 600 West, Orem, UT with the funeral service held immediately afterwards at 11 am. An additional viewing and graveside service will be held in Cheyenne, WY later in the week.
