LuElla Bennett Day passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024. She was born in Alpine, Utah on January 30, 1930, to loving parents, Dewey Logie and Blanche Lafern Bennett. Although she grew up in Depression times, she did not notice the effects. Her father was a fruit farmer, and so the family had plenty to eat. She and her siblings also had plenty of work, thinning peaches and apples in the spring, picking berries in the summer, and harvesting fruit in the fall and then selling it at the farmer’s market in Salt Lake City.
LuElla’s childhood set the stage for the rest of her life. She never went far from a farm. Following graduation from high school and an associate degree at LDS Business College she worked at various jobs in Salt Lake including being a secretary to Belle Spafford, LDS Church Relief Society President. A mission to the Central States Mission followed next after which she met her future husband, Carl Day, at a missionary reunion. Eventually they raised eight children together.
They commenced farming in Highland, Utah, where they lived most of the rest of their lives. Tomatoes and cantaloup were their cash crops that afforded opportunity to renew acquaintances with people from the intermountain west.
One of the loves of her life was flowers which grew abundantly in her gardens and also in the surrounding mountains. She was passionate about hiking and especially enjoyed the meadows, the adventure, the freedom, and the bonding time with her children and other loved ones. She was a talented seamstress, loved crocheting, playing the piano, preserving food, and quilting. Later in life she enjoyed working in the temple and serving as a missionary at the Family History Library.
Her happy smiling face will be missed by family, friends, neighbors and all who spent time with her. She is survived by her children: Jens Day (Tim Cowdrick), Jennifer (Warren) Robinson, Shelby (Bob) Jarman, Jordan (Jill) Day, Jill (Bob) Bills, Jana Lee Day, Janelle (Lee) Anderson, Jason (Fernanda) Day. She has 24 grandchildren and 14 great children. Her surviving siblings are: Philip (MaryLee) Bennett, Mont (Janice) Palmer, Royce (Brenda) Jorgensen, and Marilyn Chadwick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, son Jeral Day, and siblings Lola Hutchison, Sherman Bennett, Marlow Bennett, and Brent Bennett.
Services are being held December 7, 2024 at the Day Meadows LDS Chapel at 6050 W Chapel Drive, Highland (10686 N).
