Our dear Dad, Lynn Niles Mecham of Garland, Utah, passed from this life on September 11th, 2009, at the home of his son, Kirk in Pleasant Grove. He was born to Joseph and Mildred Mecham on February 23, 1934, in American Fork Utah, where he spent his childhood and graduated from High School.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the southern states. He attended USU and BYU where he received a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He made his home in Garland , Utah where he worked for U&I Sugar for many years, then for Morton Thiokol, until his retirement.
On March 26, 1964, he married Joanne Barnes in the Salt Lake Temple . His sweet wife preceded him in death in July, 2008, and welcomed him into the next life, joined by his parents, sister Nina Jo, and other family members. He is survived by his children, Jolynne Wheelhouse (Scott), Kirk (Kelly), Emily Wilson (Grant), Marianne Burrup (Brandon), and 18 grandchildren; and four of his siblings: Jack (Joy), Crosby (Janet, dec.), Karen Johnson (Michael), and Samuel (Kathy), as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
He will be remembered for his compassion, friendliness, sense of humor, his love of people and of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He had a full happy life. He had a great singing voice and participated in operettas, plays, and many a barbershop quartet.
He was active in his LDS ward and stake where he served in the bishopric and high council. Later he was called to serve as an usher at Temple Square and loved it. He also loved Scouting and served as a Scoutmaster for several years. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver as well as many other Scouting awards. He survived two heart-attacks and suffered a stroke in 2005 which took his speech and much movement. For such a communicator, it was a hard thing for him and his family. He taught us much. We are very grateful to Kirk and Kelly for their loving care of Dad this last year of his life. We are also grateful to his Hospice Care nurses who have become dear friends. Thank you! We are happy for you, Dad, but will really miss you and your strength!
