MARIA FRIDA ZEEB MONROE
aMria Frida Zeeb Monroe, 83, formerly of Soda Springs, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 in Salt Lake City at the home of her daughter where she had been residing for the past 5 years.
She was born September 21, 1923 to Gottlieb and Frida Zeeb in Murrhardt, Germany where she grew up. After attending school she became a nurse and worked with the Red Cross in Germany at area hospitals during WWII and after.
She then met an American soldier, Melvin Monroe, with whom she fell in love with and later married in the United States on December 22, 1947.
Maria enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Some of her fondest memories were of camping at the Palisades and the Snake River with family and friends. She also enjoyed fishing with Melvin on his boat. She loved visiting with her children and grandchildren. She also had a great love for animals.
She served in the primary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and worked as a nurse's aide at Caribou Memorial Hospital for many years.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Brent (Erika) Mansfield, Lordsburg, New Mexico, Mrs. Lyle (Marlene) Wolf, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Don (Sherry) Sandles, Pocatello, Idaho, Mrs. Dale (Diane) Petersen, Salt Lake City, Utah and Mrs. John (Kristine) Kennedy, Soda Springs, Idaho; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one brother, Walter Zeeb of Murrhardt, Germany.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, one sister, Gertrude Lauchner, and one son-in-law, Brent Mansfield.
A celebration of Maria's life and memory will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Stake Center at 290 South 3 West in Soda Springs, Idaho, directed by SereniCare funeral home in Draper, Utah. Friends and family may call Saturday, March 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the above address at the LDS Stake Center. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, Idaho.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Hansen and his nurse, Tamera; also Diana and Margarita along with the rest of the staff of Lifepath Hospice for all their care and services.
