Cedar City, UT - Maria Wilhelmina Fasol Oostveen, age 81, slipped from this earth on May 6, 2011, from the arms of her eternal companion into the arms of her parents who waited to greet her. Maria was born June 2, 1929, in Hoorn, Netherlands, to Maria Mak and Willem Adriaan Fasol. She married Hendrik Roelof Oostveen on April 28, 1951, in Dalfsen, Netherlands. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Bloemfountein, South Africa, where they started their family. After joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hank and Maria sold everything they had to relocate to the United States were they could provide better opportunities for their family. In 1965, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Maria dedicated her life to the Savior and passed this love onto her children and grandchildren. From 1998 to 1999, Maria and her husband served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they were asked to teach Family History. After returning from their mission, Hank and Maria were called to run the Family History Library in Cedar City. This was a calling where they found great happiness because they had made a promise with the Lord that they would spend their lives in his service. Hank and Maria have traced some of their history back to the 1550's and have been diligently working to complete all the temple work for their ancestors.
She is survived by her husband, Hendrik; children, Robert (Darlene) Oostveen, of Vernal, UT, Ernie (Shanna) Oostveen, of Orem, UT, Alex (April) Oostveen, of Nephi, UT, Marian (Kevin) Fryer, of Windsor, CA, and Richard Oostveen, of Orem, UT; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at 1120 W Greens Lake Drive, Cedar City, UT. A viewing will be held prior to services from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Cedar City Cemetery.
