Mariano Higareda Jr, 60, of Ogden, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2011. Mariano was born on May 10, 1951 to Santos Amaro Higareda in Dodge City Kansas. He moved to Utah in 1954 and attended college in Eugene OR and in SLC. He worked as a youth councilor for the state school, at a Day Care Center and as a Fire Fighter for the BLM traveling all over the country fighting wild fires. Mariano loved dancing, listening to Reggae music and was a movie fanatic. He enjoyed martial arts and meditation. He especially enjoyed supporting his family and was so thoughtful when it came to birthdays and the holidays. Mariano is survived by his two children, Kathrina Salazar and Eddie Higareda; mother, Santos Higareda; brother, Anthony Higareda; grandchildren, Sylvia, Dulce, Precious, and Semona; great-grandchildren, Blanca, Mercedes, Angel and Adan; niece, Jolene; nephew, Tony; great-nephews Sergio and Johnny and a great-great niece Aliera; and numerous family members. He is preceded in death by one brother and one sister, one nephew and Aunts, Uncles and a Cousin. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a Vigil on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10 a.m. with funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's located at 514 24th St. Ogden, UT with burial at the Ogden City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the U of U Hospital, the Aspen Care Center and the Comfort Hospice for there loving care given to Mariano.
