Mark Austin Best passed away in his LaVerkin home on Sunday, July 11, 2010. He was born to Wayne and Lillian Best in Salt Lake City on January 22, 1957. He was 53.
Mark attended Viewmont High School, where he played on the baseball and basketball teams. He graduated from Viewmont in 1975, and later attended Utah Valley State College. He married Alice Porter in 1983, and in 1990 they moved their small family of five to LaVerkin, where it later became a large, busy family of eight. Mark loved working with kids, and volunteered as a scoutmaster and coach, as well as created a children's basketball camp for the surrounding area. Mark was active in his church and community; enjoyed taking his sons, friends, and scouts to his favorite place - his parents' cabin in the Uintas - to fish and have fun; and tirelessly dedicated much of his time, effort, and money to helping others.
As an avid fly fisherman, sports enthusiast, community coach, talented woodworker, scout leader, dedicated gardener, and Donald Duck and John Wayne impersonator, Mark had many loves and talents; but most of all he loved and took pride in his family. He is survived by his children; Anna Marie Best Waddell (husband, Ryan), Andrew Mark Best, Aaron Oakley Best, Arick Wayne Best, Abby Gail Best, and Austin Charles Wesley Best (ex-wife, Alice Torrey); his parents, Wayne and Lillian Best; his brother, John Best; and his sisters, Christy Best, Mary Decker, and Kathleen Smith.
A visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the LaVerkin LDS Stake Center at 481 North Main Street. The visitation will begin at 5:00 pm in the Relief Society Room and the funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm in the Chapel. Mark will be laid to rest in the new Oakley Utah Cemetery near the Weber River. Until we meet again, Dad, enjoy the fishin'. Catch the big one for us.
