Martin Patrick "Pat" McKone Pat McKone passed from this life on August 22, 2015 at 0737, to join a long waiting family and retire from 80 years of doing it "my own way". Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 15, 1934 to Martin H. McKone and Janet Nelson McKone. Pat's father passed away when Pat was 10 years old. The family was joined by a memorable man and provider, when step-father James B. McLelland entered their life. Pat grew up on the Westside and graduated from West High School in 1953. He proudly served in the United States Army from April 1, 1955 to March 31, 1958 and was stationed in Washington DC and Alaska. First and foremost, Pat was a dedicated and proud Firefighter for the Salt Lake City Fire Department, beginning his service on July 1, 1961 and retiring on June 1, 1988. Firefighters he served with and the calls they went on were always a topic of his conversations. Pat could be found at fire scenes for many years following his retirement feeling the fire department could still use his advice, expertise and experience. Marriage was a challenge for Pat as he convinced three amazing ladies to share his life over the years. First was Joan Lee followed by Vickie Lauritzen and Sandy Munson. Finally realizing his skills as a husband were lacking, he continued on life's path single and never looked back. His final roommate was his beloved dog, Buffy. Pat was blessed with four incredible children who survive him, Robert (Laurie) McKone - Salt Lake City, Utah, Penny (Martin Luther III) Turner - Washington, Utah, Jackie (Trent) Smith - Salt Lake City, Utah and Deborah (Scott) Bailey - Salt Lake City, Utah. Graced with grandchildren Brian, Shelby, Mason, Martin IV, Yancy, Tori, Brittney, AubriAnna, Jaycee, Kaysen, Jaydon, Lexi, Brooke and Bret. Pat is also survived by his brother Dennis (Linda) McKone - Salt Lake City, Utah and sister Sherry (Gordon) Williams Grants Pass, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard McKone and much loved grandmothers Carrie Spence and Minnie McKone. Dad chose to pass at home surrounded by his much-loved family, close family friend Jed (Jeb) Crittenden and best friend "Buffy". Special thanks to Inspiration Hospice, with exceptional care by his nurse Shane, and Beehive Senior Care for their compassion. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service Friday, August 28, 2015 at 10 AM at the Salt Lake City Cemetery 980 East 460 North, Plat U23. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Utah Humane Society PO Box 573659, Murray, Utah 84147 in Pat's name. "Dad you did the best you could. We love you"
