St. George, UT - Martin "Marty" Harold Sheeran, -76- passed away on December 19, 2011. Marty was born on November 2, 1935, in St. Paul, MN, to Martin Lloyd Sheeran and June LaVine Sjoholm. He married Norma Lind Rowley on July 19, 1958, in Whittier, CA. He joined the LDS church one month later and they were sealed to each other in the Los Angeles LDS temple on September 12, 1959, along with their six-week-old son, Martin Robert.
Marty's father was in construction and they moved often. As a result, he attended 36 elementary and secondary schools. He spent only one full year in the same school and that was Queen Anne High School in Seattle, WA, from which he graduated. He attended Seattle University, and Weber State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree. Marty served in the U.S. Navy for two years, worked as a land surveyor, and retired from the Provo City Police Department as a lieutenant in 1989 after 22 years of service. Marty served in many church positions including being a counselor, along with his best friend Gibb VanOrman, in a Provo bishopric. Marty was known for his smile, his great sense of humor, his friendliness, and his athleticism. Marty and Norma served in the Washington Spokane mission from December 2007 to June 2009. They stayed in Royal City, WA the whole time. They sang "Happy Birthday" to every adult in the two wards. They also Christmas caroled and sang throughout their mission. For them it was a 'singing mission'.
He is survived by his wife Norma, children; Martin Robert (Linda), Thomas William, Cynthia Lee, Daniel James (Pamela), Laura Michelle; and a sister, June Ellen Ford (Patrick). He was preceded in death by his parents; two younger brothers, John Richard and Charles Patrick Sheeran; and his five-week-old son David Mark Sheeran. What a joyful reunion he is having with them, and with the Savior.
