Mary Elizabeth Shurtleff Bybee passed away Wednesday, 23 January 2008 surrounded by family. Born 3 March 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arnold Riley Shurtleff and Ruth Richardson, the family moved to Alameda, California in 1918, later to Oakland. Mary and Curtis Ray Bybee were married 17 July 1937 in Oakland, California and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, September 1939. They raised their family in Oakland until returning to Utah in 1989, living in Provo, Utah. They moved to Pleasant Grove in 2003 to live with their daughter, Sue. Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years, Curtis Ray Bybee, their children, Joanne Byers (Carl), Salem, Oregon, Susan Wright (Leland), Pleasant Grove, Utah, Howard (Suzanne Phair), Provo, Utah, Ronald (Lynette Eyre), Orem, Utah, Gerald (Shauna Mosteller), Sebastopol, California, 32 grandchildren (one deceased), 84 great grand-children, and brothers Sherril and Chester. Mary served in many leadership positions in her LDS ward and stake, and twenty years in the Oakland Temple. The last years of her life were spent surrounded by her grandchildren and family, which gave her great pleasure, though she suffered from severe illness. Her final days were spent at the Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center, where the staff cared for her, for which we are deeply grateful. We also share our appreciation to Hospice Alliance Home Health for their care of Mother. A viewing will be held Saturday 26 January 2008 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m (Manila 1st Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3396 North 900 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah.) Burial will be at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
