In June of 1986, Mary contracted Guillian Barre syndrome but was able to remain in her home because of help from dear friends and neighbors, in particular Brady and Marion Howard, Connie McMahan, and neighbors, Omega and Troy Gibson, John , Linda, Karri and Kyle Kelley, Jim and Madelin Schooley, and John and Diana McCarthy. Mary also worked as a travel agent in her home for 22 years . She really enjoyed the work and the dear friends her clients became especially her dive group. Mary spent the last 2 years of her life living with her daughter in Kaysville, Utah. She was so happy to be surrounded by her family thoroughly enjoying her grandchildren and being able to meet and get to know her great granddaughter. Her hospice team, in particular Dr. J. Allen Francis, nurse Jamie Cox and her mainstay aids Dani and Mallory kept her comfortable the entire time. Mary was a member of Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church in Midwest City. While in Utah, she maintained her ties to the Episcopal Church through Father Steve Anderson who faithfully ministered to her every Sunday afternoon.
