Mary Helen Lewis Leaf
Helen Lewis Leaf, 12-8-1927 - 7-2-2012, went to home to be with her LORD and Savior, Christ Jesus, whom she loved and served all of her life.
Helen was the 4th of 7 children born in Salt Lake City to James and Edith Lewis. She also had 5 half brothers and sisters. She graduated from West High School. Shortly after, she married Donald Duane Leaf on June 28, 1946 and they raised 4 children together in Salt Lake City, Utah. He preceded her in death September 22, 2011. She and Donald were founding members of Anchor Baptist Church.
Helen enjoyed working for many years at St. Mark's Hospital in Central Processing, where she worked with several family members and made many lifelong friends. She lived in Weatherford, Texas for about 10 years, then moved to Birmingham, Alabama for 2 years, but then finally moved back home to Utah in March 2010, where she lived the remainder of her life. Helen loved bird watching, cooking, singing - especially with her sisters and her husband, doing crafts of all kinds, and while at Spring Creek, she loved playing Bingo. Her greatest joy was spending time with loved ones.
She was a wonderful mother and grandma. She loved her brothers and sisters, and was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her best friend was her sister, Betty.
She leaves behind sons Donald (Linda), David (Kathi) and daughters Sandra (Joe) Cutright, Ruth (Michael) Johnson, 15 grandkids, 29 great grandkids, 1 great-great grandchild, sisters Betty Anderson and Midge Jewett, and many friends.
Many thanks and much love to the staff at Spring Creek Health Care, where Helen lived since March 2010. She made a lot of good friends there, both staff and residents. She will be sorely missed. Also, thanks to Charlee, Matt, Myrna, Joyce, Kimberly, and Tenisha from OneCare Hospice who helped make the last month of her life more comfortable.
Services will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at Calvary Chapel Salt Lake, 460 W Century Dr (4350 S). Viewing at 10am, funeral service at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to assist with funeral expenses. You may send donations to Michael Johnson c/o Calvary Chapel Salt Lake, 460 W Century Dr Murray, UT 84123.
