Mary “Midge” Ellen Steiger returned home to her Heavenly Father on June 6, 2022 in Ogden, Utah. She was surrounded by loved ones, including her lovingly devoted husband Don. She was born on December 26, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas to Jerold Preston and Mary Murl Hayes. She was the second child and daughter of four siblings including Jerrianne Kolby (Lawrence), Steven Hayes, and Jerold Preston Hayes Jr. (Adele). She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 11 years old. She remained strong and faithful throughout her earthly life. After graduating from Pensacola Technical High School, she went to school and began her career as a legal secretary.
Midge loved and adored her seven beautiful children: Darrell Todd (Mary Beth), Matthew Scott (Melody), Christopher David (Janie), Aimee Marie Snow (Ryan), Timothy Mark (Annie), April Lenae Conlon (Bob), and Benjamin Kent. She also took pride in her three stepchildren: Douglas Clark (Cecile), Cary Donald (Holly), Sheri Pritchett (Scott).
Midge was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her siblings, seven children, three stepchildren, 33 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Midge married Don Steiger and they shared more than 30 years of bliss. He was the love of her life, and they brought much happiness and devotion to one another. Midge sacrificed much and would do anything for her children. She loved her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed handwork and made sure everyone had a crocheted afghan or blessing clothes whether they were crocheted or sewn. There wasn’t much she could not sew, crochet, or cross-stitch. Midge had a sense of humor that would keep you in stitches laughing with all her many escapades. In spite of all her medical challenges throughout the years, she did not stop providing service to all she could.
Midge will be remembered as a bright, shining light to her family, friends, and all who knew her. The Steiger, Stubbs and Hayes families would like to extend their gratitude to the Ogden Regional Medical Center ICU staff, especially to her private nurse for their loving care.
Services will be held in her honor on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 954 West 1100 North, North Salt Lake, Utah, 84054. The family will greet close friends and loved ones prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Graveside dedication and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park located at 17111 South 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah 84065.--
