Max Clayton Swensen completed his earthly mission on Aug. 2, 2008, and has been called by his Heavenly Father to serve a mission in a better place.
Max was born June 6, 1920 in Preston, ID to Alvin Cornelius and Arvilla Clayton Swensen. He worked on the dry farm with his father all through his growing up years. He played basketball in high school and was State Vice President of Future Farmers of American his junior year and President his senior year. His family moved to Nyssa, OR after graduation where he met and married his wife of 66 years, Lucie Wheeler Swensen. They were married Dec. 9, 1941 in Mt. Home, ID and later sealed in the Logan, UT Temple on Jan. 23, 1942. He served in the Navy during WWII.
He leaves behind a great posterity of 7 children, 36 grandchildren, and 68 great grandchildren. Max was active in the LDS church serving as a high councilman, home teacher, bishop, as well as serving 3 missions to the Philippines, 2 of them as 1st counselor to the mission president. He enjoyed serving in the temple and working with the Boy Scouts. He loved fishing and snow mobiling.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 16, at 10:00 am at the Mt. Pleasant 6th ward building located at 500 North and 200 West. Family members will receive friends from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. in the Relief Society Room.
