Melba Parker Bastian, 94, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2009. Melba was born in Spokane, Washington, July 20, 1915, the daughter of Josephine Lindner and George Grundy Parker.
She married Weldon W. Bastian on November 15, 1935, in Spokane and they were later sealed in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on November 22, 1939.
Melba was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including RS president, chorister and secretary. She loved music and was very accomplished on the Hawaiian guitar. She loved her family, her flowers and working in her garden. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon, her parents, her two brothers, Guy and Wayne Parker, and her great grandson Jonah Kai Bastian.
She was survived by her 7 children, Larry (Diane) Bastian, Bountiful, UT, Marlene (Curtis) Safsten, Springville, UT, Bonnie Williams, Parker, CO, David (Marilyn) Bastian, Coulee Dam, WA, Steven (Debra) Bastian, Southlake, TX, Penny (Chapman) Lindsay, Fremont, CA, and Daniel (April) Bastian, Vernal, UT. She was also survived by her 43 grandchildren, 98 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the LDS chapel located at 1785 East 400 South, Springville, Utah. Viewing at 11.00 AM and funeral services will be at 12:00 PM.
Interment and a short graveside service will be held at the Vernal City Memorial Park Cemetery, Vernal, Utah, Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 12:00 PM.
