Michael (Mike) L. Hartwell passed away on April 15, 2009 at age 69, peacefully from a short battle with cancer with his loving wife Janet and sister Carols and brother-in-law John at his side.
Mike was born on November 9, 1939 in Conrad, Montana to Ira Hartwell and Margaret Webb. He spent his childhood in Valier, Fort Benton and Helena Montana.
Mike joined the Navy in January 1958, and achieved the rank of IC2 (E5). Mike met and married the love of his life Janet Cooper on April 22, 1961. They had four beautiful children and lived in Santa Ana, California where Mike worked for Southern California Edison for 29 years. After retirement, Mike and Janet traveled throughout the United States. He especially enjoyed the trips to Yellowstone with his grandchildren.
They moved to Utah in 1999 to help their daughter, they loved the valley with the mountains so much that they bought a home in West Jordan. They started going to the Eddie Mayne Senior Center in Kearns. Michael volunteered at the Senior Center and loved doing Meals on Wheels. He joined the harmonica club and sang in the choir with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, and brother Jimmy. He is survived by children Cindy, Steven, Briand and Susan. Grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas, Michael, Tristan, Annie, Aidan, Brandon, Andrew and Garrett, Zachary and Jacob. Siblings, Carol, Danny, Tim, and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4290 West 5415 South, Kearns. The viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Camp Williams in Bluffdale.
The Family would like to extend a special thank you to Jan, Ann, Mike and Sergio of Pinnacle Hospice. And their many friends at the Senior Center for all their love and support.
Flowers can be delivered to the church at 9:30 AM Wednesday Morning.
