Michael Burt Keddington

Michael Burt Keddington "Mr. K"
Michael died at home surrounded by his loving family on November 15, 2010, after complications due to a stroke. He was born December 18, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah to his father Alvin Burt Keddington, who gave him the gift of music and a love of singing, and to his mother Patricia Keddington, who taught him to be a true gentleman. He served and LDS mission to France from 1962-1964, and maintained his love of the language throughout his life. Michael married Dorothy McDonald on July 17, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master's degree from the University of Utah. He taught science at Kennedy Jr. High for 35 years where he was lovingly known as "Mr. K". Through his passion for teaching he helped countless students. His devotion to the Gifted and Talented program, or "Questies", was especially important to him. One of his unique contributions was a French Science class in which students spoke and wrote in French as they learned. He had a great love of science, and though a scholar, he acknowledged the hand of the Great Scientist, evident in this world and in the stars he loved to study. As an active member of the LDS Church, he had many callings: teacher, clerk, choir conductor, and worker in the Jordan River and Draper temples. In addition to teaching, Mike loved theatre, performing with local and community theatres for over 20 years. His theatre family will miss him, too. He was an avid reader and explorer. He spent many happy summers at the Oregon Coast and in Utah's mountains. He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Dorothy and 6 children; Laura (Ryan) Heugly, Stephanie (Rod) Clark, Michael Burt Jr. , Matthew (Burgandi), Daniel (Raye Ann), and Andrew Keddington; 14 wonderful grandchildren; and his sisters Kristine (Allen) Latham and Karyn Grimshaw. A viewing will be held at the Alta Heights LDS church at 1500 E. 8600 S. in Sandy, November 19, from 6:30-8:30 pm. The funeral will be at the same location Saturday, November 20, at 12:00 noon, with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 am prior to the services.
