Mildred Maud Leckman

Mildred Maud Williams Leckman Born on November 18, 1919 to Jessie L. MacNicol and Melvin M. Williams in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Elizabeth, Pennsylvania High School with twice as many credits as needed, lettering in basketball. In her senior year, her team won the championship of Western Pennsylvania in 1937 as a highlight of her teen years. Mildred completed her educational studies at various business schools and real estate license courses, plus a Bachelor's degree from University of Utah in 1950.
After enlisting in the Navy, she was stationed in Philadelphia and her main task was to compile the Aviation Supply Catalog for the Navy Air Corps. While still in the Waves, she married Albert J. Leckman (Army Air Corps) in 1944 in McKeesport, PA. After the war was over and they were both discharged from their military obligations, they moved to Utah to pursue their college degrees.
They are parents of Patricia (Jim Banner) and Scott, both of Utah and Joni (Terence Foster) residing in California, grandparents of David (Stefanie) Banner, Alisa ( Marsh) Morford, Matthew and Eric Leckman, great-grandchildren: Rachel, Lauren and Kate Banner, Christopher, Patricia, Emmary, Davidson Chase, James, and Lucy Morford, all of Utah.
Mildred and Albert were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints on Mildred's 60th birthday in 1979. They served two missions for the Church and served as temple ordinance workers at both the Los Angeles and later the San Diego temples. Mildred served as a teacher in various Church auxiliaries, Ward Young Women's president, and a member of Stake and Ward Relief Society presidencies.
She served in the Chula Vista (California) Hospital Auxiliary for many years and other community auxiliaries as well. The family expresses special thanks to Deana Hjelm and Melanie Colbert of Alpine Hospice for their tender loving care of Mildred.
The family would like to honor and express our gratitude to our mother and grandmother, Pat Banner, for the many years of care, compassion, service and sacrifice given to our grandmothers Mildred Leckman and Dorothy Banner, and to our grandfather, Albert Leckman. Since the day her first child was born, she has never ceased to serve and care for all of us. Thank you, Nana, for all the sleepless nights and sacrifice you have made for all the generations in this wonderful family.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Payson West Mountain Church on 10400 South 5237 West, Payson, Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 4:30 PM in the Relief Society room. Graveside services will be held at Glen Abbey (Bonita, California) on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10 AM in the Sleepy Hollow Mausoleum area.
