Mildred P Olsen

Mildred Peterson Olsen 1912 ~ 2007 Mom's private and secluded life came to a peaceful close Friday, April 27, 2007 at the age of 94. Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, "Little Millie" as known to her neighbors and friends, was born the only child to Harriett Memmott and George David Peterson, December 15, 1912 in Scipio, Utah. Mom lived in Scipio until her graduation from Nephi High, then on her own, ventured up to Salt Lake City where she found an apartment and worked at the old Radio Tube plant during the war. After her father's death, she moved Grandma Hattie up to Salt Lake where she could care for her. Later she would become the head cook for two prominent families. Mom met and married her sweetheart Leland Pratt Olsen in 1947. Dad and mom raised their family of three children and lived in various locations in the Salt Lake valley. Mom loved to cook! Our family was fortunate to always have home cooked meals - remember those heavenly homemade rolls! Mom also loved and had a great compassion for animals, being an only child, she often said her dog Sammy was her best friend during her childhood years - dogs just seemed to touch her heart- Wolf already misses her! In the late 50's mom returned to work at the University of Utah bookstore until her retirement in 1973. She cared for dad until his passing on January 9, 1975. Mom moved to Murray and maintained her own home until two years ago when she moved to Crosslands Care Center. Mom is survived by Marilyn (Ken) Farnsworth, Lynda (Rick) Westphal, and Paul (Tina) Olsen; her nine loving grandchildren, William O. Williams, Christopher Williams, Joseph Williams, Michelle (Terry) Zervos, Brian (Taralee) Shewell, Chad (Kevin) Shewell, Sean (Jacqueline) Shewell, Jennifer Westphal, Paul Michael Olsen, Jessica Olsen, and Christopher Olsen, also, 11 sweet great-grand-children. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 12:00 noon at the Crescent 30th LDS chapel, 89 E. 11000 South, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. prior to services. Mom was an absolute creature of habit - so would like to thank all those who were patient and kind in their care of her, Sunbrook Hospice, and especially "Dr. Alex" and her favorite aide Megan for their tender loving care.
