Monica Erundina Rubio Sé¡nchez, 88, was released to her eternal reward on September 2, 2011 after a long illness. She was born in Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Cuba on February 28, 1923 to Saturnino Rubio and Angé©lica Valdé©s. She was the fourth of seven children. Her siblings credit her with doing all she could to maintain strong family ties; a loving, concerned sister and daughter.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Aldo P. Sé¡nchez, on June 17, 1954; they were married 52 years and sealed for Time and all Eternity, before Aldo's passing. She was in her early teens when she learned to sew. For the rest of her life, she derived great joy designing and sewing original clothing for herself and her family. She was also a very talented cook and took great pride in having family and friends enjoy her cooking. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she lovingly nurtured and encouraged us with her lullabies, delicious cooking, and sewing.
At the age of 45, with her husband and daughters, she left her homeland, Cuba, to escape communism and bring her family to the US seeking freedom. She overcame language and cultural barriers to create with her husband the "American Dream" for her family.
She is survived by her daughters; Maria Carr (Louis), Isis Sé¡nchez, and Nina Dayton (Daniel), 11 grandchildren, 14.5 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
If you wish to honor her memory please spend some time with someone who is lonely.
