Nola Jean Leavitt

Nola Jean passed away peacefully on November 15, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with stomach cancer.
She was born on a cold day, December 11, 1929 in a log cabin in Grover Wyoming to Brigham Delos Gardner and Camera Lorean Hepworth Gardner. She graduated from Star Valley High School and then served in the North Central States Mission after graduating from the University of Wyoming. She married Garth Leavitt on August 13, 1953 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Nola Jean taught school in Etna Wyoming before staying home to raise their 5 children. She then returned to teaching school starting in the 6th grade and ending up in the 3rd grade, which she loved. She taught and loved hundreds of children in her twenty year teaching career. Her life was focused on those things that mattered most: children, family, lifelong friends, students that she loved. She was sustained by her great faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Nola Jean was courageous. She faced the circumstances of life with dignity, never permitting difficulties to dim her resolve to make good things happen. She loved having a big garden, was a wonderful cook and was always very generous with her creations. She always had her hands busy quilting, crocheting and making beautiful things. Her kitchen always had a wonderful smell and a good treat. She was especially famous for her delicious pies. She showed her love to those around her by creating wonderful memories for family and friends through food. She always made two of everything, one for the family and one to take to a friend or neighbor. She also loved a good ballgame, especially watching her family.
The geography of her life's work was relatively small, but her impact on our lives was boundless. We are grateful and fortunate to have been loved by such a wonderful person.
She is survived by her loving husband Garth Leavitt, children, Claire Almeida (Gasper), Deborah Boone (Tim), Kurt Leavitt, Jeana Hutchings (Bret) and Christine Leavitt. She is adored by her 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Delworth Gardner (Kathryn), Vivian Jones (Woodford), LaNiel Reasch, Marjorie Bradshaw (Bill), Harold Gardner (Marilyn), Julia Sarvey (James), and Joel Gardner (Joyce) and a very large extended family.
Funeral services will be held Monday November 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the Orem Geneva Heights 8th Ward, 546 North 500 West, Orem Utah. Viewings will be held Sunday evening November 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Orem Geneva Heights 8th Ward Building and again prior to the service at 11:30 a.m. Interment in the Afton Wyoming Cemetery on Tuesday November 20 following a Memorial Service held at the Afton Stake Center at 10:00 a.m.
In Lieu of flowers donations maybe made to the Utah Chapter of the MS Society or the American Cancer Society in her name. The family would also like to thank her nurses Nancy and Darla from VistaCare Hospice and Dr. Tudor and Annette from Central Utah Medical Clinic for their kindness and wonderful tender care.
