Orellana Maria Elba Sarmiento

Maria, passed away in her home Tuesday evening, surrounded by her family. She was called home by our Heavenly Father after battling cancer for almost 12 years. She was the strongest woman we ever knew. When she was 36 years old, she started fighting her biggest battle. But even having breast cancer it never slowed her down. She fought hard to be able to stay on Earth to be with her family. But even after her cancer was in remission for almost five years, she started yet another fight but this time it was a lot harder. Maria was not willing to give up, she had many reasons to live. After yet another five years of chemotherapy and radiation she knew she wanted to keep fighting. This October when she found out she had four brain tumors she said that she wanted to do the 15 radiation treatment and that she was going finish them. On Nov. 02, 2009 she completed the 15 radiations. She was so happy to be done and excited to know that she was doing everything she could To stay a bit longer with her family. Maria was doing much better and responding good to the treatment. Heavenly father needed her home because she had filled her purpose on this Earth. Her family and friends have lost an amazing person who brought joy and happiness to their lives. We know that we will be with her someday.
Maria was born in San Salvador, El Salvador and lived there till her late 20s. After living In a war torn country she decided it was time to find a better life for her daughters and herself. In May of 1990 she made the biggest move of her life and came to the United States of America. She lived in Los Angeles, CA for 15 years and made great impressions in many people lives. In late 2005 she made the move of her dreams to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Maria is survived by her husband Manuel Sarmiento, daughters Patrica Madera, Lesley Rosas, Nadia Vargas and her princess Diana Sarmiento. Sons in-law Leo Madera, Ivan Rosas and Enrique Vargas, her joyful grandchildren Jazmen, Nestor, Jonathan, Leo, Lyla and Aurora also by her mother Nelly Valdez. Her sisters and brother, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and many cousins. She follows her grandmother Mama Elba whom she couldn't wait to see.
