Peggy Dee Wright Whitney "Punna"

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and teacher Peggy "Punna" Whitney died at home on March 30, 2009 on her 25th wedding anniversary, surrounded by her adoring family after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Punna was born July 11, 1952 in Toole, Utah. She was sealed to Roger Jay Whitney on March 30, 1984 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of three beautiful children.
Punna grew up in Coalville, Utah. Graduating in 1970 from North Summit High as salutation of her class. She graduated from Utah State and later from the U of U receiving her M.Ed. in 1981. She retired in 2006 from Jordan High School after 32 years, mostly spent teaching English.
Punna was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in several Church responsibilities and influencing the lives of many people. She most recently served as the Young Women's President in the Jordan North 1st Ward. She also served as ward chorister for 16 years.
Punna had many loves in life, first was her family. She enjoyed reading, singing, visiting with friends, and traveling. She was a great friend to many, an excellent example to all who knew her, and the rock of her family. She taught by her example, strength, courage, and love.
Punna is survived by her husband, Roger, and children: son, Cade Wright; daughters, Cassidee Ann (Teresitila "Nuu") Iva and Cara Anne, all from West Valley City; father Belvon Blonquist, Coalville; brother, Gordon (Susan) Wright, West Jordan; sister, Tonja (Harold "Howdy") Hanson, Kamas; mother-in-law, Hazel Whitney, Cottonwood Heights; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Punna was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan Dee Wright and Peggy Geraldine Hall Wright Blonquist.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2 at 12 noon in the LDS Stake Center located on 4000 West 3900 South. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service, also at the LDS Stake Center. Interment will follow the services at Valley View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at www.ocrf.org.
