Harold "Pete" Deller of St. George, UT, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born on February 20, 1922, to Albert and Anna Handorf Deller in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married "Peg O his Heart," Margaret (Peggy) Malloy September 20, 1947.
He served in the Army Air Force as an Aerial Engineer from November 1942 to March 1946. Pete was a truck driver in California until he moved his family to Myton, Utah. He worked for the Utah State Department of Transportation, ending his career as the foreman of the Roosevelt shed in May 1984.
He moved to Southern Utah where he enjoyed 26 years of retired bliss! He joined the Elks in California in 1954 and was associated with the St. George Lodge for 26 years, for a total of 56 years. He was a member of the Bloomington Country Club. And was a devout member of the St. George Catholic Church. Pete was a man of integrity and dedication to his wife and family for which he will always be remembered. His harmonica serenades, "fix-it" abilities, assembly and operation of model airplanes and cars, enjoyment of gadgets and toys, and his jargon of old sayings especially endeared him to his family and friends.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy, and seven children; Jerry (Carolyn), Modesto, CA; Tom (Koreen) of Elk Grove, CA, Jim (Paula) of Fruit Heights, UT, Bob (Jean) of Santa Clarita, CA, Theresa (Dennis) Ingram of Roosevelt, UT, Janet (Dan) Sorenson of Layton, UT, and Ken (Debbie) of West Valley City, UT. He was a proud grandfather of sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Charlotte, two brothers in law, four sisters in law and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Rignell, Dr. Saifee, Dr. Mercado, Dr. Brizalara, Dr. Te, Dr. Bowles, and the exceptional medical staff at Dixie Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care and treatment of "Pete" and his family.
