Phillip Alton Skiles, beloved father and husband, passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer on June 11th, 2009 surrounded by his family. Phillip was born on March 2nd, 1942 in Dothan, Alabama. He went on to travel the world, by serving his country in Vietnam, serving in the Peace Corps in Ghana, Africa, riding his bike around Europe, and working and residing in Detroit, Alaska, Colorado, and Texas before settling down in Salt Lake City. This is where he met his wife and worked as a teacher, an occupation for which he had great love and talent. He was an alumni of Florida State University and continued to be one of the Seminoles biggest fans. In his free time he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors- camping, hiking, and riding his bike. He had great love for his wife, his children, his country, nature, and his religion. He was a faithful member of the LDS church and was sealed to his wife, Eileen Sweetland Skiles (Molly) in the Salt Lake Temple. Phillip was preceded in death by his mother, Janette Kelly Faisen, his father, John David Skiles, and his sisters Linda and Angie. He is survived by his wife Eileen, his son Seth, his two daughters, Sadie and Mckenzie, his stepfather Luther Faisen, his sister Cathy Keyes, and two brothers Dennis and John Harvey. There will be a viewing held on Monday, June 15th from 10:00-11:00 at the Copper Hills 6th Ward, 5349 W 9000 S (West Jordan) with services to follow at 11:30. Burial will follow the services at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
