Raymond Peter Draper was born on September 25, 1932 in Portland, Oregon to Otto Ludwig and Edla Chorlott Kristen Petersdotter Draper.
After the death of his father, when Raymond was about four years old, his family moved to Utah and built a home in Midvale. He graduated from Jordan High School where he "was named winner of the Davis medal having proved himself the student best informed on current events, in a test given April 19 under the direction of the 'America Education Press Association.'"
Later he went on to graduate with a degree in History from the University of Utah. He worked for a time at Hill Air Force base, and later for the IRS in Ogden, Utah. He performed in drama at Jordan High School and loved the arts throughout his life. He even performed as an extra in a few LDS church movies. He enjoyed serving as a delegate for the Democratic Party in Utah County. History and current events continued to be a love of his life. Raymond was often found researching and writing about historical topics and current events. He taught a class in current events at the Eldred Senior Center in Provo.
Raymond was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a High Priest. He served in various callings including Ward Historian, Home Teacher, Sunday School teacher and High Priest Group secretary.
Raymond met and fell in love with LaWana Sorenson, They were married in the Jordon River Temple on the twenty-fifth of June.1983. They lived in Provo, Utah throughout their married life. Raymond was a devoted son, brother, and husband. He is survived by his loving wife, LaWana his brothers, Otto L. Draper and William Draper, and his sister, Phyllis Ann Draper Nibley, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand, and great grandchildren
He will be interred in the Orem Cemetery on Friday September 26, 2008. There will be a grave side service at 3:00 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The Orem Cemetery is located at:1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
