Rebecca Ann Duesing McAlister "It's All About Love... "
Everyone's favorite mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend passed away peacefully along side her family on Saturday January 23, 2010 after a nearly two year courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born Rebecca Ann Duesing to parents Floyd and Trudy Duesing in Springfield, Illinois on September 9, 1958, Becky was 51 years young when she passed. Born of a Lutheran Pastor, Becky's adventurous childhood was spent moving across the country at times with her two sisters Linda (Reed Henrichsen) and Debbie (Tom Buese) eventually settling in Provo, Utah and enjoying a late surprise with the birth of a younger brother Paul (Carrie). Becky met the love of her life and life long companion Van McAlister in a very serendipitous roadside encounter at the age of 20 which led to a beautiful Provo Canyon riverside wedding ceremony the following year on June 10, 1979. Van instantly fell in love with Becky's two boys from a previous marriage, Robert Brian Devey and Brandon Lamar Devey, and raised them as his own alongside two boys of Van and Becky's fashioning, Jesse Van McAlister (Jessica) and Walter Russell McAlister (Melanie). Becky took great pleasure in traveling every year with her family and always opened her home to visitors and loved ones. To know mom was to love her. Smiles, hugs and kisses were always in abundance in her presence. Becky worked many years in several charitable organizations and spent her adult life helping those in need. She learned to sail, loved to sing, loved to cook and was always happy with a baby in her arms. Her four grandchildren Brodee, Karly, (Brandon) Shaylee and Alexis (Brian) brought her immense happiness and she spent every chance she could in their presence. Becky's undeniable faith in the Lord was a beacon for those around her and brought her great comfort in her final days. She is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, siblings and countless cherished friends. Becky was preceded in death by her parents and daughter in law (Jennifer Devey). A religious service and celebration of Becky's life will be held Saturday, January 30 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church (261 South 900 East Salt Lake City, Utah) at 11.00, with a light lunch to follow.
